While cannabis use remains federally illegal, many states have ruled that medical cannabis is legal in certain amounts and concentrations of THC. Other states have legalized cannabis for recreational use, and some states have made it legal for both medical and recreational use. Some states have even created a cannabis board to oversee state regulations for medical and recreational cannabis. As legalization is still new and regulations are still being set, the boards provide information on existing and proposed regulations, information on licensing and oversight of cannabis growers and dispensaries, and information for buyers and patients. In some states the cannabis board is part of the alcohol board. Presented here is a list of all the current state boards dealing with cannabis and their contact information. Note, however, that while all of the states departments listed below are members or associate members of the Cannabis Regulators Association (CANNRA), not all states have a cannabis-specific branch. States in pale green do not yet have a regulatory agency.
