The California Insurance Department issued a moratorium on September 20, 2021 declaring that insurers may not cancel or nonrenew residential property insurance for properties located in any zip code within or adjacent to the fire perimeter. The moratorium lasts from one year after the declaration of a state of emergency as defined by code based solely on the fact that the premises is located in an area where a wildfire has occurred. This applies to all policies in effect at the time of the declared emergency. A copy of the order can be found here.
